Is there any other news out there!

I have to admit I watch too much cable. I really do care about the missing girl in Aruba and I hope they find her. But really, isn't there any other news topic we can listen to and discuss?

Don't you find it infuriating that we have a war in Iraq and we have to listen to hour after hour about the landscape of Aruba and maybe for a minute or two, we can find out the day's news in Iraq and here.

And everyone has an opinion.Well that's good, but we are really reaching the bottom of the barrel to talk about how inadequate the detectives are in Aruba. Don't you remember Chandra Levy? Was that case ever solved? No it wasn't. but they have an excellent detective on that case now. So stay tuned.

And if you have any interest in PBS speak up now. This is the only forum for many people with out cable to watch non-network shows. The shows are so good and not interrupted with awful commercials. So many children grew up with Mr Rogers and Sesame Street.

I know Bob Novak hates that show, but most of the children and parents I know love it. Do you think FOX is getting a kids network ready to go?

Please let us know your thoughts.

cheers,
Sandy

Bob Novak is an idiot. My children loved Sesame Street and they really learned from it.

I have always liked PBS because of the intelligent programming. Why would anyone want to take that off the air.

Is it because the adminstation doesn't want people to think. If we have people thinking and reading books and watching good shows on TV then what would be next. Maybe getting rid of this administration?

I don't like to politicize PBS. I think it is television for the people -- all people. While it is the single outlet on television (outside of community access cable) that provides alternative perspectives, I don't believe that Nature, NOVA, Mystery!, Sesame Street, MotorWeek or any of the other shows cater to the wealthy, the poor or any particular segment other than personal taste. The one great thing about PBS is that it is equal-opportunity viewing. It doesn't care if your rich, poor, black, white or can even form a complete sentence yet. It doesn't discrimminate against the young or old. It is not a special-interest program, available only to what some call the 'disenfranchised' (I hate that word) and as such, is one of the best reasons for federal funding. Anyone with a television can tune in, you don't have to have cable to get it and as such, everyone is equally empowered to learn, dream and go along for the ride. Funding should be consistent and PBS will continue to be fair game for everyone.

Yes, there is news out there. Just ask any spokesperson or publicist trying to get it covered. The networks, including the cable giants, consistently try to control the news and as such, only watch each other. Turn on any network and get the same story, with practically the same writing. It's boring, no one is leading the way and it's just bad television. Period.

Corporate America and the current administration have the same agenda. Since media is owned by a few corporate giants (TimeWarner, Viacom, GE & Disney, all enormous supporters of the administration), why are we surprised that they represent ONLY their own interests? Corporate support has all but disappeared from PBS, leaving only individuals and foundations to continue the great traditions of PBS. Let's fight what the administration is trying to do by sending PBS money designated for the programming we value.
