Valerie Plame
Is anything secret anymore? Ms Plame is a hard-working CIA covert agent and the overfed
politicians in DC are trying to make her and her husband out to be villains.Bob Novak should be
sitting in a cell like Judy Miller is. But he cooperated and gave his source up. Or did he?
This is a very serious matter. Karl Rove studied with his mentor
Lee Atwater on how to be a mean-spirited politician. He hates
Democrats. This is going to unravel into a big mess and it took a giant step
today with the Washington Post saying that Plame's identity was marked as
SECRET!
Even if it wasn't marked as secret, a White House official should not be throwing names out
of people in the CIA.

It is a sad situation when someone of that ilk such as karl Rove can get away with almost murder.
karl Rove is a genius politician.
Karl Rove may be a genius but he's a genius at being a thug!
I don't care what side you are on, this is dispicable. People could and probably have DIED b/c of this--then again the Bush administration doesn't seem to care about that in general.
Karl Rove will finally get his turn to serve time if the system works.
It came out on the talk shows that it will be a felony charge for the person who leaked information in a classified document. Did someone obstruct justice?
karl (notice the "k") rove is the latest infected boil on the face of a bloated, money-slogging republican party. mr. k needs to be lanced. getting rid of this infection may lead to the start of healing a sick, psycho party.
Yes. This republican party likes to distract from the topic and attack the messenger. Bad stuff.
It probably would have been better for Karl Rove to recuse himself of any discussion related to CIA operatives, present or past. That being said, it has come to light, albeit not covered in the media at length, that he did not give up the name of the former CIA operative and that, in fact, he never even knew her name. Initially, I was very upset with him and felt he should simply resign -- maybe he should still. I doubt, given the new evidence, that there is any colusion or justifiable evidence for felony charges. I must admit, however, that the bile on this blog from Libs is disturbing and using Karl Rove as an excuse to let it bubble to the surface is even more troubling. If you all are 'equal opportunity' 'freedom of speech' 'diversity' supporters, it certainly is not evident in the cutting and vile remarks about Republicans -- those rights belong to everyone. I refrain from saying disparaging remarks about either party. I suspect that those of you who wrote nasty, broad brush strokes about Republicans are the very same people who believe that every drug dealing/murdering/thieving criminal has a warm and fuzzy underbelly ready to grace the world with their yet untapped generosity/brilliance. Well, the least you can do is extend your loving patience and kind hearts to your counterparts in the Republican party. Being hypocritical is so unproductive.
Such irony. a defender of the GOP, a party now hammerlocked by its most extreme elements, calls for a vision of fairness. In addition to defending the party, the writer also appeals for a liberal view of Karl Rove, the man who gave us W, Iraq, "family values," the spread of terrorism, a determination to implant "one party rule," the "Swift Boat" hacks, and last but certainly not least, the same overfed Rove whose slick hand, with help from Scooter Libby and Dick Cheney, whose heart is at least half mechanical, played a role in outing of a CIA officer. This noble defender of the GOP demands respect and fair treatment as if he or she or the party has earned it. Today's GOP, thanks in large part to Rove and his puppet, W, have split this country into warring camps--haves, have mores (to use W's sneering, arrogant description of his "base") and all rest of us. Half the nation has been sold out by politicians who want to turn the clock back to the rule of robber barons, political hacks who peddle a winner-take-all strategy of social compact. The writer defending Rove is obviously an intelligent, thoughtful person. So much the more cause for sadness. In another era, this same writer would be honored as a thinker. Unfortunately, his or her defense of what is indefensible only adds poison to the world of civil and political discourse. Karl Rove will fade, but the damaged caused will take generations to repair.
It is interesting that the outing of a supposed NOC covert CIA agent is a huge, terrible issue for the left that has done everything in its power to emasculate the intelligence community in the past.
Bravo to the last comment. It's inconceivable that Democrats, who have summarily dismantled Human Intelligence budgets during the Clinton years and who left Bush a legacy of a raided military intelligence coffer, could at all be 'moved' to tears by the outing of a former CIA operative. Really? Are you kidding the rest of us? Once again, the left so adequately demonstrates its adeptness with issues it can barely comprehend with lynch mob, blind obedience, goose-stepping hysteria.
"Bravo" needs a refresher course in recent political history. The human intelligence brain-drain began in the 80s under Reagan. It continued unabated under "41". Little was done to halt the outflow in the 90s, a time when republicans appeared more concerned with sex scandals than terror threats. But history, the ebb and flow of realpolitik, has seldom held much interest for those enjoy the frat house mentality of party politics.
That's rich...so even when Republicans are not in office, they get the blame for poor Oval Office policy -- not to mention some seriously flawed personal behavioral issues. Fortunately, it's a big enough party to shoulder playground mishaps and make a positive difference in the world.
"...A positive difference in the world." Let's see: Iraq; record-breaking domestic and foreign deficits; a shrinking middle class; a bonanza for special interests; four years of Wall Street stagnation; job losses not quite on a par with Hoover's disaster but getting there; inspiring the spread of world terrorism; America's standing in the world at its lowest ebb; economic and monetary policies designed on the McKinley model; "balance" at CPB; pandering to the extreme Christian right; WMD and a dire warning of a coming "mushroom cloud"; Don Rumsfeld's theater of bloody incompetence (ask the generals what they think of him); Army recruitment sinking; W; DICK CHENEY; the careful nurturing of those who live under rocks: Ms. Coulter, Bill O'Reilly; the always entertaining Sean Hannity; FOX and Roger Ailes; wedge issues replace reality, etc. The list of "playground mishaps" goes on and on. One wonders if it isn't about time the GOP divested itself of "one party" monomania? A final thought: Benito Mussolini said "perfect fascism" to achieve its goals requires suppression of any and all opposition, strict "social regementation" and a hand-in-glove partnership of government and corporate power. Playground mishaps? Tell it to the families whose sons and daughters won't be returning from Iraq. Tell it to the nearly 12,000 severly wounded. Tell it to the 112,000 dead Iraqi civilians. Some playground! Some mishaps.
Enough. The problem is not that the name of a former CIA field agent, who was at the time a desk pilot was outed. The real problem is that President Bush and his staff and for that matter all conservatives are so hated by the left that facts and reality have no place in their thinking. I enjoy hearing lefties ask how many politicians' sons are in the service. My question to the lefties is when were you in the service of anything but your own comfort and safety, when did you raise your right hand and put it on the line. Many Politicians have done just that. If you want to get to the bottom of the name release then investigate and form an opion based on facts for a change. Don't simply rely on the nature of the charge and your own bias to convict.
I am so tired of hearing that if you disagree with Bush than you are a tree-hugging,anti-corporate, anti-military, anti-family, anti-religion person. Can't you disagree with Bush without being pigeonholed? Just the other day I heard Rush talk about how to spot a liberal and how the only pro family people are Republicans. How divisive is that? Both sides are divisive but I'm tired of the stereotypes on both sides.
That being said though I do think Bush is one of the worst Presidents we've ever had and I can think for myself and not be put into a neat category.
And for the record, I am a Christian, very pro-family, pro-business, pro strong military budget, not anti-war but anti this war.
Why is it if you don't like Bush, the right attacks you as weak. I'm getting very tired of it.
The left is hateful of the right? Kerry pulled the plug on the hateful ad against Bush and tried to take the high road. Bush kept that horrible swift boat ad running.
They spread hateful lies about McCain and his wife and about Sen Max Cleland being a traitor and about lie after lie from Karl Rove who studied at the feet of Lee Atwater. Lee got his just reward and died a painful death of brain cancer. I don't wish that on anyone but you reap what you sew.
Republicans were once true conservatives in the best sense of the word. So few of their kind remain in power today. Radicalism overwhelmed the party. For instance, in Bush we learned that fiscal conservatism means outrageous tax cuts for the rich in a time of war. We learned that VA benefits are OK to cut, also in time of war. We discovered that it was OK to under-equip our troops. (Oop, almost forgot: "Mission Accomplished"!). We learned that bowing to the religious right floated all boats and stuffed all coffers. We found the common good replaced by "right thinking" and jingoism--Mr. Rove's specialty. And meanwhile we learned it was OK to out a NOC and cover it up and lie, lie, lie. I am all for conservatism in government on many levels. But this Administration has tossed good conservative practices into the trash and replaced them with radical policies and radical appointments. Hard to imagine someone like John Bolton as our man at the UN, but there he is, another radical to wag his finger at the world. As for Rove, if he had any dignity he'd resign.
...how we got from Karl Rove to Lee Atwater suffering from brain cancer I'll never know. I just hope that whoever wrote that about Atwater isn't volunteering anywhere where someone can get hurt. That kind of perspective, especially if it comes from a 'liberal' is downright scary...karma is one thing, saying that kind of thing displays a truly dark underbelly.
They went from Karl Rove to Lee Atwater the same way liberals always get from one issue to another. It is called the "If I can't win I'll take my ball and go home", defense. Any time a liberal is backed into a corner with logic, thought and facts, this defense is used. If they can't win a debate they try to change the question to fit their answers.
So, if you can't convict Rove in the media, which considering the media, is amazing in and of itself, you are going to wish him a fatal illness? Maybe that kind of thinking is why dems have a hard time getting elected Dog catcher.
I have read this thread for some time and have only now decided to post. Some of what I read makes sense from both sides but I have to tell you the anti Rove people are just nasty in what they say. As a lifelong Democrat I hope that this is not because we are out of ideas as a party. Usually the man who shouts loudest is the first man to run out of ideas. There is also the shotgun blast of issues that have little place in this debate. In reply to the gunners who drag the war in Iraq into every conversation I ask you one question. Have we deposed a tyrant, eliminated a potential staging area for terrorists, and closed down the rape rooms? If the answer is yes then we have done things that are in line with the core values of the Democratic party. I say investigate Rove to the full extent of the law and let the chips fall where they may.
The above writer makes sense. His or her view on our role in Iraq may be a bit off: yes, we deposed a tyrant, but at the same time we've created a terrorist call-to-arms/training camp in the bargain. Rape rooms? Who knows for sure about having closed them down? But on the subject of ugly dialogue the writer is clear to the mark. Just about anyone who has been in Washington during past administrations will tell you that the rancor of today is the worst in 60 years. And Mr. Rove is the chief architect of this divide-and-conquer dialogue. He boasts about it. It is common knowledge that Rove is fashioning the strategy of "one party dominance." The split in our country today is tragic, and the us-vs-them war cry was announced on the first day of W's administration. People who split along liberal and conservative lines, who do battle over these vacant words, do a disservice to America. Yes, there's lots of venom out there, as the last writer clearly noted. Question is: who created this toxic atmosphere, and to what end?
The subject is Valerie Plame,a CIA officer once assigned to field work. Everyone knows Rove and Libby outed her to get at her husband. Seems the subject invites a much wider debate, but let's stick to the facts--the breaking of federal law and the coverup.
Karl Rove should get a life that doesn't hurt other people, pollute the political stream or tear us apart!!!
Rove has not been convicted of anything yet except being a part of the Bush team. Why is it that the left seems to think that a charge is a conviction. Get a grip and get the facts first, before you get your tar and feathers out. If Clinton had been accused of this the left would be making excuses and putting him up for intelligence supporter of the year.
So we need a "conviction" to assure us Rove hasn't created political havoc? We all know Rove was in on the Plame issue, though he may never be convicted. More far reaching is what Rove and his mouthpiece Bush have done to the political process. Can you say "sociopathic"? All sides have suffered and will continue to feel social and economic pain long after Rove/Bush have departed Washington.
