Madam Speaker
Wasn't it heart-warming to see Nancy Pelosi sitting behind the president last night?
She conducted herself so well. It seemed though that VP Cheney was looking at her and smiling
and she was looking at Bush and frowning. What a couple. Is it half empty and half empty?
Bush looked so weary and gave the best speech that HE could under the circumstances.
Where are we headed as a country? I think it maybe Watergate and Vietnam all over again.
But we can hang in there and go shopping.
I thought the speech by Senator Webb was strong and brilliant. He has the credentials and family background of being Marines to fight the Bushies. And he looked the part too.
The buzz in Washington is that he did very well and he has a good future.

Pelosi is lucky that she could sit in that seat. What was her problem. She isn't a principal of a high school, she's the speaker and should act like it.
What is your problem? Did you see VP Cheney? He looked like the smoking man and never blinked.
We are so lucky to have Pelosi as the new speaker. I only hope that she will do the right thing which is the left thing.

It was a a great visual, but Pelosi's confirmation as Speaker was better. She grabbed the gavel, surrounded by her family (most notably small grandchildren) and called the House to order.
Can't get better than that for the cameras.
It was an honor to see Nancy Pelosi take that seat--in the House race and on TV. As a woman I say, It's About Damn Time!
Personally, I wouldn't vote for a candidate just because she's a woman but I'm really happy that we are making some gains in the political arena.
Now, I want to see the Republicans go back to being for less government and spending and I also want to see a clear plan from both parties on how they are going to keep our country safe and secure, our schools strong and our health care costs down. I don't see why we can't have a strong foreign policy and good domestic policies as well.
Pelosi's arrival as House Speaker and Hillary's growing presidential bone-fides hint at a desire for real change. Obama's presence underscores this apparent ground swell. America is weary, fed-up and looking for new leadership. The political appetite for change we find in the air today was similar to that of 1961, when JFK arrived in the White House. America was war-weary and disheartened by Ike's leadership. Change--big change--was coming over the horizon. Today Bush and his outrageous administration have honed America for a similar turnabout in voter attitudes. Beginning in 1994, when Republicans invented their "Contract With America," the level of abusive power, incompetence, cronyism, corruption and scandal have sucked the oxygen out of the air and peaked with a staged, bloody war in Iraq based on lies. Americans are often indifferent to politics (witness our low voter turnouts). But when America has absorbed enough abuse, the slumering giant of discontent awakens. We thirst for something entirely new, starting with honesty, and this newness must include a reconstructed Republican party. It may take a generation to undo the damage heaped on our citizens and the world since 1994. It will take youthful energy and honest policy to heal not only the body politic, but our image as the bright, new hope for this tired old world.
